Prof. A. Sattar M. Hashim is a renowned and highly experienced consultant neurosurgeon in Pakistan. He obtained his initial training in neurosurgery from Japan and upon returning to Pakistan became associated with Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), from where he retired as Professor of Neurosurgery after 28 years of service.

Prof. A Sattar M. Hashim is one of the Senior most neurosurgeons of Pakistan . Remained Assistant Prof. , Associate Prof. and Prof. of Neurological surgery at Jinnah post Graduate medical Center and served there for 28 years during his Career, he trained 25 Neurosurgeons who are serving in Pakistan and Abroad. He was Superviser and Examiner of CPSP and University of Karachi. He attended national and International conferences and delivered lectures. He has written 50 publications in local and international journals.

In 1995, established Neurospinal and Cancer Care Institute under the Umbrella of M. Hashim Memorial trust and he First time Established Gammaknife and Xknife (brain and Whole body) Stereotactic Radiosurgery in 2008 as a Pioneer. And till today ,more than 5000 patients have been treated in last 15 years .

Academia

In his tenure at JPMC he trained over 20 neurosurgeons who have gone onto further flourish in the field of neurosurgery at home and abroad.

He has served as a clinical supervisor/trainer of fellowship candidates in neurosurgery and was also on the examiners panel of the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP) for FCPS training and University of Karachi for MS training in neurosurgery.

He has attended numerous national and international conferences and delivered lectures worldwide and also has over 50 publications in local and international indexed journals to his name. He is also the recipient of the Life Time Achievement Award by the Pakistan Society of Neurosurgeons.

Prof. A. Sattar M. Hashim has over 43 years’ experience in the field of neurosurgery, and is considered as the pioneer of Gamma Knife Radiosurgery in Pakistan. He also has special interests in the following;

  • Neuro-oncology and stereotactic radiosurgery for non-invasive treatment of brain tumors and other lesions including deep, otherwise inoperable tumors.
  • Neuro-surgical treatment of tumors of the brain, spine and spinal cord.
  • Trans-sphenoidal surgeries for pituitary tumors.
  • Neuro-surgical treatment of vascular malformations of the brain and spine and various types of hemorrhages of the brain.
  • Surgical treatment of spinal disorders, including degenerative disease, trauma and tumors.
  • Minimally invasive spinal surgery, decompression, fusion, cervical, thoracic, lumbar foraminotomy, laminectomy, decompression, spinal fixation.
  • Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for the correction of essential tremors.
