About Us
Once the Gamma Knife and Synergy-X Radiosurgery facility was inaugurated at Neurospinal and Medical Institute (NMI), the institute was renamed as Neurospinal and Cancer Care Institute (NCCI) under the umbrella of M Hashim Memorial Trust.
The vision was to provide all major surgical and medical services under one roof and at the same time provide state of the radiosurgery services to the patients.
The complement of clinicians at NCCI are renowned all over the country and have served both the government and private sector medical institutes in the city of Karachi.
The imaging facilities at NCCI have always been at par with any other major medical institute of the country if not better. The radiology services include the following;
- 1.5T Toshiba Vantage Elan MRI Scanner (with oncology applications)
- 0.35T Siemens Magnetom C MRI Scanner (Open MRI with the widest bore in Karachi)
- 16-Slice Toshiba Aquillion Wide Bore CT Scanner (with specific oncology applications and software)
- Gray Scale & Color Doppler Ultrasound
- Mammography
- DEXA
- Vascular & Non-Vascular Interventions
Recent additions have included a
64-Slice PET-CT Scan – The 2nd scanner to be installed in Pakistan
Bi-Plane DSA – the 2nd DSA unit of its kind to be installed in a private medical institute in the city.
After completion of upgradation of the radiology services the next innovative decision by the Chairman was to have a Leksell Gamma Knife and Synergy-S Radiosurgery and Radiotherapy facility at NCCI. This is a dedicated unit for the treatment of brain and whole-body tumors among other pathologies.
This Gamma Knife installation was also the first of its kind in Pakistan.
NCCI has always been a rising star in the field of medical services and with all of these facilities under its roof it now has reached the zenith of success. This of course does not mean that we lose our vision, we have managed to stay on the path to providing quality services all across the spectrum of our facilities and will continue to do so in the future.
We at NCCI would want to be a beacon of hope for that cancer affected and other patients are looking out for, a belief that a positive outcome lies ahead. This belief can be difficult to hold onto in the face of cancer. Knowing how to create a sense of hope in your life can help you face cancer survivorship with strength and confidence which we aim to provide to our patients.
CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE
Neurospinal and Cancer Care Institute (formerly Neurospinal& Medical Institute NMI) is the realization of a dream that I conceived during the initial years of my training as a neurosurgeon, to lay down the foundation of an institute that would make a meaningful contribution to society and provide exceptional medical care to the masses.
With a career in Neurosurgery and Neuro-oncological Surgery spanning over forty years, I stand here grateful to Allah, despite being from a humble background, having met a few gracious souls who guided me in my journey of life towards this dream that I have achieved although I do feel that I still have a long road ahead of me and a lot more needs to be done. The most important of these souls was my esteemed fatherwho solicited inspiration and taught me the value of discipline, perseverance and a regulated life.
As I am sure you would know that cancer is a major public health problem and a significant financial burden on the individuals and families affected by this disease. This is the reason in the West the emphasis is now more inclined towards early detection of cancer and its prevention and better treatment options.
